Diabetes Home Test

Those with diabetes need to monitor their glucose levels through home testing. There are a number of different types of testing kits available to help them to do this in order to make it easier for them to keep their condition under control. This will limit the health risks that can occur should they not properly control their diabetes.  Here, we take a look at the diabetes home test and other common diabetes supplies.

Screening supplies usually involve testing strips to monitor either blood glucose or that in urine. The urine tests usually involve just dipping the test strips into urine and being able to read them quickly. The blood testing kits sometimes require you to mail in your test strip from the kit in order to have it analyzed. This tends to take about the same time as it would take you to get results from a doctor visit, but at a fraction of the cost. You also only need a finger prick, where many doctors take the blood from your veins.

Those with type 1 diabetes have blood testing monitors that they can use on a daily basis in order to make sure that they take insulin as often as they need to. These monitors usually involve the use of a finger prick and test strips as well. The newer versions of these monitors involve less painful finger pricks and are easier to use than past versions. Insurance will cover the cost of many of these supplies, depending on the type of insurance that you have. Not all types of insurance will cover all types and brands of diabetes home test materials, so it is important to check with your insurance company before changing the type of materials that you use.

The development and use of the many different types of testing equipment ranging from the diabetes home test to other ancillary supplies has made it easier than ever before to control diabetes and get the amount of insulin that is necessary. Fewer doctor's visit are necessary when these kits are used, so it is easier to do the testing on a regular basis and do all of the recommended tests.
